Drake – Scary Hours 2 EP Review

Genre: Hip Hop

Score: 5/10

This is a new EP from ChampagnePapi, the 6 God, the Taylor Swift of Hip Hop, Aubrey Drake Graham aka Drake.

My Opinion of Drake: He’s the Pop Icon of Hip Hop.  He should be in your Top 50.  We all have a favorite Drake song.  Your grandmother knows Drake.  I hope that Drake actually enjoys making music and finds joy in collaborating with other great and legendary musicians.  He still has a classic in him.  I hope to God that we all live to see the day where I actually enjoy a Drake project all the way though.  It will be worth the wait, as Drake can just dive deep into the passion that he loves and what has helped him create his successes.  Fingers crossed.

What to Expect: Just one good, finished Drake song.  One that is not a leftover or a part of a song.  That is where I am at with him right now.  Fingers crossed.

Overall: We got a hit.  Great job, everybody.  Hope you all got paid well.  I hope that everyone took appropriately precautionary measures during the creation of this record.  Let’s knock Certified Lover Boy out of the park this time.  Fingers crossed.

 Play by Play:

1.     What’s Next – The beat sounds functional.  Drake looped his verse twice.  He was just painting a vibe with some bars, which is fine.  The song is okay.

2.     Wants and Needs (feat. Lil Baby) – Reminds me of cuts off of IFYTITL.  Drake is spitting facts once again on the track in the way that we all know and love.  Drake delivers with a catchy hook as well, cementing his place as the official pop sensation of Hip Hop.  Lil Baby does a great job supporting him with an amped flow that doesn’t really let up.  It’s a hit: One for the playlist, hits for the SEO team, bag gets secured, charts get topped.  It’s what he does.  It’s what puts him in the same tier as Michael and Prince commercially.  It’s why we all know and love Drake.

3.     Lemon Pepper Freestyle – This beat is why Boi 1 Da should be in your Greatest Producer of All Time List.  Say what you will about Aubrey, but when he gets a Boi 1 Da beat, it’s a hit.  Rick Ross sounds like an episode of the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.  Drake is writing in his diary again, and I find it most enjoyable tuning it out at this point and vibing to the sample.  Honestly, I just don’t envy Drake right now.  He sounds like he doesn’t even want to be here and when I listen into what he’s saying, I just start feeling pity when he’s rapping about how he’s feeling.  I know that if I was at the same position of scrutiny as Drake, I would also get pretty stressed out from having to deal with it on a daily basis.  Folks want to see you win, Aubrey.  They’ll literally eat up anything at this point, so just make the music that you love.  You still got a classic in you.
